Tomorrow's Breakfast !

National French Toast Day is observed on Wednesday, November 28th, which is just perfect for me! I have 3 egg yolks left over from making a batch of divinity here tonight.

French Toast is usually eaten for breakfast, and its primary ingredients are bread, eggs, and milk. The bread is dipped in a milk (or sometimes cream) and egg mixture. Spices and flavorings such as , nutmeg, vanilla, and cinnamon are sometimes mixed in, and the bread is then fried in butter.

French toast is usually topped with maple syrup or powdered , but jam, honey, and fruit are often used as well. It is often served with bacon, ham, or sausage.

The origin of French toast is unknown, but a food similar to it—where bread was dipped in milk but not eggs—appears in the Apicius, a Latin recipe book from the 4th or 5th century. Foods just like French toast were served in medieval Europe with game birds and meats. Recipes for the food date to the 14th century in France and Germany, and the 15th century in Italy.

French toast has gone by many different names, and wasn't referred to as French toast until it appeared in print as such in 1871. In America it has been known as "nun's toast," "German," and "Spanish." It is often called "pan perdu" in France, which means lost bread. It was given this name because lost bread—bread that is leftover or stale—is often used to make it. This term survived in the United States in Creole and Cajun cooking. It has been called "poor knights pudding" and "Poor Knights of Windsor" in England, Denmark, and Germany, and "torriga" in Spain.

How WE like our French Toast !

It's pretty easy to make and makes a great central figure on the total breakfast plate.

Some otter ate ten expensive koi goldfish worth up to 5000 bucks each in a Chinese pond in the middle of a busy traffic part of the city in Vancouver! And they have not been able to catch the elusive otter.I cant figure out how it got past the garden walls are like about 12 feet tall all around the pond. They were only able to save three koi so far and theres only one left now!

Sounds like vacation time for that school of fish till they get the hole plugged or the culprit caught.

French toast has always been on my breakfast list, and anytime during the day. I want mine with plenty of my own maple syrup, a couple fried eggs and sausage or bacon, or both. Just for kicks I tried cutting the bread into small pieces, mixing the eggs and milk in with it and cooking it in small batches in the fry pan. I was great with lots of maple syrup and bacon. Sort of like bread pudding but much more satisfying. If you try this then make sure the liquid is all soaked into the bread or it will be like custard. It will still taste great though.

I am thinking the dried stuffing bread where it is cut in longer even strands.... I may give it a try and post it.

That is a shame... I tried to have a gold fish pond here and it ended up being a dirty toad waller.
